HOW TO SHOOT WITH THE BEEF CONCEPT

The shooting technique in basketball that needs to be introduced to players from an early age is BEEF. BEEF is a shooting concept that makes it easier for athletes to understand and master shooting techniques properly and correctly. The advantage of shooting with the BEEF concept is that it is efficient and effective, easy to understand. According to Danny Kosasih (2009: 47). BEEF namely:

B (Balance) balance: The movement always starts from the floor, when you catch the ball bend your knees and set your body in a balanced position.
E (Eyes) eyes: For shooting to be accurate the player must immediately focus on the target (players are quickly able to coordinate the location of the ring), and the eyes are not blocked by the ball and hand.
E (Elbow) elbow arm: Keep the elbow position so that the movement of the arm will remain vertical.
F (Follow through) follow-up movement: Lock your elbows and then release your forearms and wrists following the direction of the ring.

Balance (balance) the advantage in the BEEF concept is that it is in balance to provide power, control, and rhythm when shooting, foot position is the basis of balance. According to Wissel (1996: 46). Saying that to get balance while shooting, spread your feet shoulder width apart point your toes straight ahead (towards the basketball hoop) the foot on the side of the shooting hand must be in front (right foot for right handed shots) bending the knee is very important because of that will energize.

Eyes (eyes) are good in the BEEF concept, when shooting the eyes must not be blocked by anything so that a shooter can see where the ring is located. According to Wissel (1996: 46). Saying that keep your eyes on the hoop, focus on the face of the circle for all shots except for bounce shots, look at your target (basketball hoop) quickly and keep your eyes focused on it (basketball hoop) until the ball hits the target.

Elbow (elbow arm) must be 90 degrees, not less or more because it will affect the power when pushing the ball, keep the elbows in, in the sense that the elbows remain upright and must not tilt.

Follow through (when releasing the ball) from the middle finger, keep your arm up and fully extended with the middle finger pointing at the target until the ball hits or reaches the target (basketball hoop).

Preparation phase:

  1. Eyes see target/ring
  2. Legs spread shoulder width apart
  3. Toes straight forward
  4. Knees are flexed
  5. Shoulders relax
  6. The non-shooting hand is next to the ball
  7. The hand that shoots behind the ball
  8. Fingers relax
  9. Elbows in
  10. Ball between ear and shoulder.

Implementation phase:

  1. View targets
  2. Spread your legs, back and shoulders
  3. Extend your elbows
  4. Flex your wrist and fingers forward
  5. Release the thumb daei ball
  6. Balancing hand on the ball until it releases
  7. All movements are performed rhythmically

Follow-through phase:

  1. View targets
  2. Arms outstretched
  3. The index finger points at the target
  4. Palms face down when the ball leaves the hand
  5. Balancing Hand facing up

Thus, athletes are said to have skills if they have criteria. Movement from the preparation phase to the follow through phase is a movement that is carried out continuously (not broken).

Maximize the movement of B.E.E.F.

B (balance): the movement always starts from the floor, when catching the ball bend your knees and set your body in a balanced position.

E (Eyes): for shooting to be accurate the player must immediately take a glance at the target (players can quickly coordinate the location of the basketball hoop).

E (Elbow): maintain the position of the elbow so that the movement of the arm will remain vertical.

F (Follow through): lock your elbows and extend your arms, flex your wrists and follow your fingers toward the ring. The movement of the shot is done correctly and consistently.

Well, the basic shooting technique is one of the important movements that you must master. Through this variety of shooting, the team can score points and win. Therefore, every attacking player must understand various basic shooting techniques in order to execute the ball optimally.

Do you know how many basketball shooting techniques are there? there are at least ways to shoot that you must memorize. Each of them has different basic moves and difficulty levels. For example, the lay up shoot and slam dunk movements are both used to attack with different methods.

How to shoot the ball into the ring should not be done haphazardly. But must use certain techniques so that the implementation can take place properly. This time I will discuss the basic shooting techniques in basketball and their explanations.

Basketball Shooting Techniques and How to Do It

  1. One Hand Set Shoot

Basically, how to make a one-handed shot in basketball is very easy because it has been taught from an early age by the teacher. This basic shooting technique is also ideal for almost all conditions. Unfortunately, you can't do it in a state of urgency because one hand set shoot requires high concentration and accuracy.

Instead of getting into the ring, shooting the wrong ball can actually be a blunder. This happens when the shooting technique fails and the ball is captured by the enemy so that a counter attack is created. Based on the picture above, we can conclude that the basic one hand set shoot technique is quite simple. Players only need to shoot with one hand while lifting slightly to increase accuracy.

Unfortunately, there are still many students who fail to do this movement. Various reasons also arise from not being able to aim properly to lack of power. Therefore, please learn one hand set shooting basketball below:

    1. Keep your eyes on the target.
    2. Both legs, shoulders and back are stretched.
    3. Flex the wrist and position the fingers forward.
    4. Remove the thumb from the ball.
    5. When the ball is released, the hand position remains balanced.
    6. Then the rhythm of the shot is also balanced.

  2. Free Throw

Free throw is actually not a basketball shooting technique because it seems free and relaxed. The free throw movement is more similar to the free throw technique where the player throws the ball using two hands. However, this one movement can be said to be quite flexible because you can use it to attack or defend.

In the attack pattern, many points are scored when players use free throws to get past the enemy. Free throws are also ideal as a slam dunk bait or just a pass to a teammate.

Free throws require skill, concentration and player habit. Before starting to shoot the body must relax and follow the rhythm of the game. The shooting technique in basketball is as follows:

    1. Keep your eyes on the target.
    2. Say the target keyword to make it more rhythmic.
    3. Both legs, shoulders and back are stretched.
    4. Then the elbows are also stretched.
    5. Position the waist flexible and point the fingers forward.
    6. Remove the index finger from the ball.
    7. When the ball is stretched, try to balance the hand position.

  3. Jump Shoot (Shooting While Jumping)

We will continue to discuss the basic techniques of shooting basketball which are of medium difficulty. Jump shoot requires us to shoot while jumping towards the ring. Therefore, the position of the player when they want to shoot should not be too far from the enemy's defense zone. You also need a high level of accuracy and concentration because you have to do two movements at the same time.

This basketball shooting technique is quite effective when players are pressed by the opponent's siege. Shooting while jumping is almost the same as shooting with one hand. However, the position of lifting the ball on a jump shot must be higher when it has made a jump. Accuracy and power generated will usually be greater because the position of the body is on top.

The basic technique of jumping shoot basketball is usually taught to students when they enter high school. To hone the ability of the teacher will also give us time to do practice. If you still don't know the theory, then take a look at the shooting motion below:

    1. Position the body jump then the ball is fired.
    2. The jump has a height that corresponds to the distance of the shot.
    3. Both legs, shoulders and back are stretched.
    4. Then the elbows are also stretched.
    5. Position the waist flexible and point the fingers forward.
    6. Remove the index finger from the ball.
    7. When the ball is stretched, try to balance the speed.
    8. Using the same rhythm
    9. Keep your eyes on the target.

  4. Hook Shoot

The next basketball shooting technique is the hook shot. The hook shot has the advantage that it is difficult for the opponent to block even though his body is tall. In addition to being difficult to drive, it turns out that many people like this method of shooting because it has a high aesthetic value. To make a hook shot you have to approach the ring at least 3 to 4 meters away.

After making sure the distance then you can set the pace to jump and put the ball into the ring. Although it is popularly used by professional athletes, unfortunately this basketball shooting technique is not widely taught in schools. We have to look for references and do our own practice in order to master the hook shot. Luckily, I've summarized the technical steps below:

    1. The foot is stepped forward with a pivot movement.
    2. The ball is raised to ear level.
    3. Balance hands until the ball is released.
    4. Use a balanced rhythm of movement.
    5. Keep your eyes on the target.

  5. Lay Up Shoot

The lay-up shoot is one of the most popular basketball shooting techniques for both professionals and beginners. The level of difficulty which is at the medium level makes it quite easy for us to master. Having a high posture is the main capital to create a better shot. This is usually the main cause of student failure when practicum activities take place.

In general, the basic lay-up shoot technique is quite simple, namely bringing the ball as close as possible to the basket. The key lies not in the power and accuracy of the throw but in how close the player can jump to the ring. In the context of education, we can find lay up shoot discussions at almost all levels. The material often turns into exam questions which of course are difficult to answer.

How to do a good and correct lay up shoot? This is what students often ask. After overtaking the ball, a lay-up shot is made near the basket by jumping high. Well, you can produce higher and higher jumps by preparing a square off. Make sure you control the speed when you want to jump. As for how to do the shooting technique in basketball, namely:

    1. Knees up and shoot.
    2. The ball is carried and positioned between the shoulder and ear.
    3. Wrist, fingers and forearm are directed.
    4. The ball is released from the index finger with a smooth motion.
    5. The position of the balancing hand must be maintained until the ball is released.

  6. Lay Up Diperpanjang (Runner)

The next shooting technique in basketball is the extended lay-up or runner. Runner is useful for shooting long distances from the basketball hoop. Runner execution is basically the same as lay ups, but is not accompanied by a stance to jump deep into the basketball hoop. The way to do the shooting technique in basketball is as follows:

    1. Keep your eyes on the target.
    2. Position the body to land in a balanced manner.
    3. Then bend your knees.
    4. Position your hands up.

  7. Slam Dunk

A slam dunk is a hard shot that is absolute or unstoppable. The basic technique of shooting this basketball requires the player to jump and put the ball directly into the ring. So that after a successful slam dunk, the player will be seen hanging from holding the ring.

How to do a slam dunk is not easy because we are required to have a high posture. Only professional players with agility and physical strength can make this shot. You could say the slam dunk is the pinnacle of all previous difficulty levels of shooting techniques.

  8. Shot 2 Point (Two Point)

The next shooting technique in basketball is a 2-point shot. A 2-point shot is the entry of a shot in the two-point area so that it is worth two. The way to do the shooting technique in basketball is as follows:

    1. Position the body jump and then shoot.

  9. 3 Point Shot (Three Point)

The next shooting technique in basketball is a 3-point shot. A 3-point shot is the entry of a shot in the area behind the three-point line so that it is worth three. The way to do the shooting technique in basketball is as follows:

    1. Position the body jump and then shoot with tension.
    2. Using the same rhythm of movement.
    3. Apply power to the legs, back and shoulders sequentially.
    4. Then the elbows are stretched.
    5. Position the waist flexible and point the fingers forward.
    6. Remove the index finger from the ball.
    7. When the ball is stretched, try to balance the speed.

In addition to the shooting technique in basketball above. There are also pictures of the 3-point shooting area and 2-point shots, namely:

    Information :

    1. Shot outside the semi-circle line (3-point shot).
    2. A shot inside the semicircle (2-point shot).
    3. Board hoop or basketball basket.
    4. Free throw (Free Throw Line).
    5. The center line of the field (Midcourt Line).
    6. The center circle (Center Circle).
    7. The border of each side (Sideline).
    8. Free Throw Lane (area that the attacking player cannot occupy for more than 3 seconds).
